Overview

Meridian is a layer built on top of Coinbase’s infrastructure that introduces receiver wallet architecture for x402 payments. Unlike direct wallet-to-wallet transfers, Meridian’s proxy facilitator creates isolated receiver balances with built-in fee management and withdrawal controls.

Key Innovation: Proxy Facilitator Architecture

Traditional x402 (Coinbase): Direct transfers from payer to recipient wallet
Payer Wallet → Recipient Wallet (immediate transfer)
Meridian’s Architecture: Proxy-managed receiver balances
Payer Wallet → Meridian Proxy → Tracked Receiver Balances → Controlled Withdrawals
This enables:
  • Organization-scoped payment management with multi-user access
  • Built-in fee collection (1% to treasury) on withdrawals, not transfers
  • Receiver balance tracking without immediate wallet transfers
  • Withdrawal controls with fee deduction at settlement time
  • Enhanced security with organization-scoped access control
